Allied Health Assistance

What is an Allied Health Assistant (AHA)?

 

An Allied Health Assistant (AHA) is someone who works under the supervision of an Allied Health Professional (AHP). The AHA workforce helps to strengthen services within health, disability, aged care, community and other sectors.

Where do AHA's Work?

 

At GSHS you may find them working alongside:

  • Speech Pathology

  • Physiotherapy

  • Occupational Therapy

  • Podiatry

  • Dietetics

 

In addition to the above, you may find them in programs such as:

  • Standing Up to Falls Prevention Program

  • IMPACT Pain Management Program

  • Outpatient Physiotherapy Rehabilitation Groups

  • Hydrotherapy

  • BREATHE Program

  • SOS Fussy Eating Clinic

  • Paediatric OT Groups

  • Cardiac Rehabilitation

  • Planned Activity Groups (PAG)

 

GSHS AHA Services also include:

  • Equipment facilitation

  • Home based intervention

  • Inpatient services

  • Paediatrics

 

We offer services at both Leongatha and Korumburra hospitals.

 

 

How to Access the Service:

 

Your AHP will work with the AHA to determine where they can best help. You will need to see an AHP prior to working with an AHA.

If you are under 65 years old, referrals can be made by service providers (GP, shire council, other health professionals, kinder teachers, maternal child health nurse, or paediatrician). You can also self-refer by contacting our intake team directly.

If you are over 65 years old, you need to be referred through My Aged Care. You can contact My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 and ask to be referred to Gippsland Southern Health Service.

Fees:

 

There may be a fee for our services as per our fees policy. NDIS participants will be charged as per the pricing guidelines.
