The South Gippsland and Bass Coast region has received a $50,000 funding injection to deliver a project that will support our local communities to make healthier food and drink choices over the next 2 years.
Funded by the Victorian Government the grant is supporting an innovative way to have a positive influence on our local food environment.
In partnership, South Gippsland Shire Council, Bass Coast Shire Council, Gippsland Southern Health Service, Bass Coast Health, South Gippsland Hospital and the South Coast Primary Care Partnership, will be delivering the ‘Making the Healthy Choice the Easy Choice’ pilot project across the region.
‘Making the Healthy Choice the Easy Choice’, will work with 5 local food business to pilot changes to their menus and venues to support their customers to easily identify the healthy choices. You will start to see the ‘making the healthy choice the easy choice’ branding pop up in participating businesses. The project uses Victorian Governments healthy Choices guidelines and classification system to ensure food and drinks are offered and promoted using the traffic light system of classification, with green being the best option. Green items are a good source of important nutrients, lower in saturated fat, sugar and salt, low in kilojoules and high fibre.
All participating businesses will be announced shortly.
