Assessment  & Management of Respiratory Failure. 

Including:

•Applying respiratory physiology to clinical practice

•Understanding respiratory pathophysiology

•Physical Assessment (incl. auscultation &  SpO2 monitoring)

•Appropriate use of O2 therapy, latest evidence and new O2 therapy devices 

Cardio Vascular Assessment

Including:

•Managing Low Blood Pressure & Shock

•The importance of recognising sepsis and assessing signs of multi organ failure

Clinical scenarios – putting it all together

About This Course

There has been an emphasis placed on hospitals’ governing bodies overseeing delivery of health care to improve processes of detection and response to patients who show signs of clinical deterioration (Standard 8). Most notably these were in relation to; 

- Changes in Neurological Status (unresponsive)

- Respiratory deterioration (SpO2 <90% and/or changes in RR / pattern)

- Cardiovascular compromise (SBP <90 systolic, HR >130 or <40)

- Worried (often identified as Sepsis)

A key challenge for any hospital is to ensure that patients at risk of critical illness or a serious adverse event receives appropriate and timely care. To ensure this occurs, it is incumbent on staff working in these areas to continually maintain and update their knowledge and skills.

This course has been designed to enhance the professional development of nurses working in acute clinical settings who may be faced with pts who show signs of clinical deterioration. 

It is perfectly suited for ANY nurse needing to refresh their knowledge & skills.

Course Facilitator : Mr Simon Plapp, (RN, BHSc., Post Grad Dip (ICU), M.Hlth Ethics. MACCCN) has extensive experience as an ICU Educator and simplifies complex topics in a thought provoking and entertaining manner, using clever analogies and interactive teaching strategies. He is currently working as an Education Consultant to various hospitals and is Victoria’s Representative on the ARC representing the ACCCN.
