Child Safety Commitment

Gippsland Southern Health: Child Safety Commitment

Gippsland Southern Health Service (GSHS) wants children to be safe, happy and empowered within our services and our community and has zero tolerance to any harm and/or abuse of children.

To achieve the best outcomes for children who engage with GSHS, we expect our staff, Board, Committee and Panel members, contractors and volunteers to work in line with the Victorian Child Safe Standards (available at this link: https://ccyp.vic.gov.au/child-safe-standards/the-11-child-safe-standards/)

Gippsland Southern Health Service (GSHS) principles

This following set of principles has a specific focus on safeguarding children at GSHS from sexual, physical, psychological and emotional abuse or neglect. This commitment complements existing professional and occupational codes of conduct.

All staff (including volunteers, students and contractors) and visitors will contribute to the development of an environment that respects the dignity of children and reflects the values of GSHS.

All staff, volunteers, contractors, students and visitors are responsible for adhering to the GSHS Child Safety and Wellbeing Policy consistent with GSHS’s commitment to child safety at all times by:

  • Treating all children with respect.

  • Engaging with children in a safe and effective manner.

  • Listening and responding to the views and concerns of all children.

  • Promoting the cultural safety, participation and empowerment of all children.

  • Taking all reasonable steps to protect children from any form of abuse/harm.

  • Reporting any allegations of child abuse or concerns of harm to children in accordance with GSHS guidelines.

  • Not discriminating against any child because of age, gender, race, culture, vulnerability, sexuality, ethnicity, disability or for any other reason.
